Over the past two years, the Michigan Department of Agriculture has worked toward the goal of updating Michigan's dairy laws and adopting the most recent revision of the Grade "A" Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. Representatives from a broad-based group of dairy stakeholders have provided a tremendous amount of input and support for this project as we have moved through the legislative process.
Now we are very happy to report that both the Michigan House and Senate have approved our dairy legislation and Governor Jennifer Granholm has signed it into law.
The Grade "A" Milk Law of 2001 has been revised and amended to include the adoption of the 2007 Federal Grade "A" Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. The Manufacturing Milk Law of 2001 has been revised and updated as well. The amendments are available at www.legislature.mi.gov. Enter bill number 1007 for the Grade "A" Milk Law (Public Act 136) and 5585 for the Manufacturing Milk Law (Public Act 147). Please note that these bills only include the sections of the laws that were amended.
