Who needs a license?
A Certified Fieldperson is an (industry) employee who is trained and certified to conduct official Grade A dairy farm inspections in the same manner a Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) inspector would inspect a dairy farm.
What fees are required? How long is the license good for? Is it pro-rated?
$60 good for 3 years from the certification date. It is not Pro-rated.
How do I apply for a license?
An individual should apply for a license by using the application, form number DY-312.
Are there any special requirements to obtain a license?
Yes. A person needs to work with a dairy inspector on 25 farms and agree within 80% on those farm inspections.
Who do I contact for an inspection?
An individual who is interested in being a Grade A Certified Industry Field Person should contact one of the dairy regional offices or the Lansing office. See MAP.
Steps to Becoming a Certified Fieldperson in accordance with the Grade "A" Milk Law of 2001

Steps to becoming a Certified Fieldperson:
- Fill out application DY-312 ($60 application fee--license is good for 3 years and is prorated in 6 month increments)
- Contact regional office to arrange dairy farm inspections with a dairy inspector
- Applicant must inspect 25 farms with the MDA inspector, correctly matching 80% or better of the inspector's debit items. NOTE: The same is true of Certified Fieldpersons seeking to renew their license
