• Governor Granholm Signs Update to Michigan Grain Dealers Act (GDA), PA 141 of 1939
On December 14, 2010 Governor Jennifer Granholm signed Public Act 264 of 2010, updating the Michigan Grain Dealers Act (GDA), PA 141 of 1939, as amended, and on December 16, 2010 Governor Jennifer Granholm signed Public Act 300 of 2010, updating the Farm Produce Insurance Act (FPIA), PA 198 of 2003, as amended, both of these Public Acts went into immediate effect.

If you are engaged in the business of receiving, buying, exchanging, selling or storing farm produce and you do not fall within an exception, you are considered to be a grain dealer and you must obtain a license from the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD).

• Farm Produce Insurance Authority Fund Site
PA 198 of 2003, the "Farm Produce Insurance Act," established a program in which producers of dry beans, grains, or corn could contribute a percentage of their proceeds to a new fund, and could recover from the fund losses caused by a grain dealer's financial failure.
