Camels and Llamas

New World Camelids (Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuna and Guanaco)

An official interstate certificate of veterinary inspection (ICVI) properly completed by a veterinarian that is licensed in the animal’s state of origin AND is accredited by the USDA in the animal’s state of origin within 30 days prior to importation.

All New World Camelids MUST be individually identified by official eartag*.  The individual identification must be recorded on the health certificate.

Old World Camelids (Bacterian, Dromedary, and Arabian Camels)

An official interstate certificate of veterinary inspection (ICVI) properly completed by a veterinarian that is licensed in the animal’s state of origin AND is accredited by the USDA in the animal’s state of origin within 30 days prior to importation.

All Old World Camelids MUST be individually identified by official eartag*.  The individual identification must be recorded on the health certificate.

*Official Identification Options:

  1. NUES Ear Tag (metal or plastic).

  2. Animal Identification Number (AIN) 840 tag (with or without RFID).

  3. Microchip (EID’s)

    • Microchip must be ISO 11784 and 11785 compliant, consisting of 15 digits 840 number with a frequency of 134.2 kHz.

    • Can only be used in registered animals, must be approved by the registry and also recorded on the registration document and ICVI.

    • Microchip reader must accompany animal.
