In June, the industries that posted the most advertisements were General medical and surgical hospitals; Limited-service restaurants; and Colleges, universities, and professional schools. The topmost advertised occupations were Registered nurses, Retail salespersons, and Home health and personal care aides. Though these occupations often have the most monthly advertisements in Michigan, Home health and personal care aides replaced First-line supervisors of retail sales workers as the third most advertised.

Supply and Demand

The supply and demand ratio is an indicator of the number of unemployed people (supply) in relation to the number of available online job advertisements (demand). In June 2025, Michigan experienced a supply and demand ratio of 1.57, meaning that there were approximately 157 unemployed people for every 100 jobs advertised online.

Location Spotlight: Northwest Prosperity Region

In June 2025, the Northwest Prosperity Region had nearly 5,700 online advertisements, the largest number of advertisements in the region since September 2019. This was an increase of nearly 1,900 (+49.1 percent) ads from the previous month and just over 2,700 (+94.5 percent) from June 2024.

In the Northwest Prosperity Region, the June supply and demand ratio was 1.60. This was comparable to the statewide ratio of 1.57 and a significant reduction from the 2.4 ratio in the previous month.  While this dip in the supply and demand ratio appears seasonally, the June 2025 ratio is much smaller than the 2.82 ratio from June 2024. The reduced ratio observed in June 2025 can be attributed to a decreased unemployment rate and a substantially increased number of online job advertisements in the region.

Of the jobs posted in the region, just over 2,400 listed a minimum education level requirement. A minimum education level requirement lists the lowest level of education an employer will accept, but employers may prefer a higher education level than what is listed. Of the jobs listing a minimum education level, 67.4 percent requested a high school diploma or GED.

Within the region, three cities accounted for 56.6 percent of the total online job advertisements in June. These cities were Traverse City (33.5 percent), Petoskey (15.2 percent), and Cadillac (7.9 percent).

The Northwest Prosperity Region’s top three most advertised occupations were Registered nurses, Retail salespersons, and Home health and personal care aides. While these occupations were also the most advertised statewide, they each made up a larger portion of the advertisements in the Northwest Prosperity Region at 5.2 percent, 4.5 percent, and 3.6 percent, respectively. Ads for each of these occupations also provided a significant contribution to the large over-the-month ad growth that the region experienced. From May to June, ads for Retail salespersons increased by just over 70 (+28.6 percent), ads for Registered nurses grew by 70 (+23.5 percent), and ads for Home health and personal care aides grew by just under 50 (+23.4 percent).
