The 9-mile Chippewa Hills Pathway, located near Alpena, offers four loops winding through a beautifully dense forest. The trailhead is 11 miles west of Ossineke via Nicholson and Kissau roads.

The pathway is maintained with the help of the Thunder Bay Trails Association.

The trail is groomed for cross-country skiing in the winter.

Timber harvests, thinning planned for trail

Please note trail uses will likely notice timber harvest activity and changes to the landscape over the next few years. You may notice aspen clear-cuts, oak clear-cuts, thinning of red pine and irregular thinning of oak-aspen stands. The harvests – a key part of forest management efforts – help promote forest health and improve wildlife habitat. Some trail sections will close periodically during these activities.
