Haywire Grade Trail
Haywire Grade Trail
Wind your way through 32 miles of scenic beauty on the Haywire Grade Trail. This historic rail trail, the first of its kind in Michigan, stretches from Intake Park in Manistique to Shingleton, traversing the heart of the Upper Peninsula. The trail's rugged, mixed-surface path—a blend of sand, gravel, and coarse limestone—caters to a variety of outdoor enthusiasts, from snowmobilers and off-road vehicle riders to fat-tire bikers. Mile markers guide your journey through the secluded, second-growth forest.
Step back in time at the tiny hamlet of Steuben, a relic of the region's logging era. As you explore the trail, discover the area's rich history through 11 interpretive kiosks, highlighting both natural wonders and cultural heritage.
Recognized as a Pure Michigan Designated Trail and a heritage trail, the Haywire Grade Trail offers a year-round adventure for outdoor lovers of all ages.
