Musketawa Trail

12-mile segment temporarily closed

A 12-mile-long trail section is closed throughout 2025 for a reconstruction project, including two trailheads in Marne and Conklin. The work includes several culvert and bridge replacements, trail repaving and tree-clearing work. The project began Jan. 6, 2025 and the expected project duration is about one year. This project is made possible thanks to a proposed $12.5 million in federal relief funding from Gov. Whitmer's Building Michigan Together Plan.

The 26-mile Musketawa Trail runs from southeast Muskegon to Walker, northwest of Grand Rapids. The paved trail takes visitors by small country towns, expansive cornfields, marshes and shady woodlands.

Trailheads are located at Broadway Avenue in Muskegon, Sehler Street in Conklin and 8th Avenue in Marne.

Although cross-country skiing is a popular activity on the trail, it's not groomed.
