The 75-mile North Central State Trail is known as one of the premier cycling trails in the Midwest. The trail is surfaced with crushed limestone and its flat terrain makes for easy cycling through diverse natural beauty.

The trail towns of Gaylord, Vanderbilt, Wolverine, Indian River, Topinabee, Cheboygan and Mackinaw City offer plenty of amenities to serve trail users along the way.

The trail is separated into sections with different trailheads:

  • Gaylord to Vanderbilt (7.6 miles): Trailhead at Gaylord Youth Soccer Complex.
  • Vanderbilt to Wolverine (10.9 miles): Trailhead along E Main Street.
  • Wolverine to Indian River (9.6 miles): The Village has two parks between the trail and the Sturgeon River with trailheads.
  • Indian River to Topinabee (5.6 miles): Trailhead at Indian Totem adjacent to Chamber of Commerce<.
  • Topinabee to Cheboygan (11.9 miles): Trailhead at Topinabee Park on the east side of US-27.
  • Cheboygan to Mackinaw City (16.3 miles): Trailhead between Lincoln Avenue and Taylor Street just east of Western Avenue.
  • Mackinaw City: Mackinaw Crossings Drive just east of Nicolet Street.
