The State Emergency Relief (SER) Program provides immediate help to individuals and families facing emergencies which threaten health and safety.

• Heat and Utilities
Financial assistance may be provided to low-income households who meet eligibility requirements when heating or electric service has been or will be shut off.

• Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Federal funds are available from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to assist low income families with energy costs.

• Home Repairs
SER assists with home repairs to correct unsafe conditions and restore essential services. Eligible home repairs may include repair or replacement of a non-functioning furnace, hot water heaters or septic systems.
 

• Home Ownership Services
Home Ownership Services may help prevent loss of a home.

• Relocation Assistance
Relocation assistance may include providing money for rent, rent arrearage, security deposits, and moving expenses for individuals and families.

• Burial Services
DHS assists with burial when the decedent's estate, mandatory copayments, etc. are not sufficient to pay for burial, cremation or other specified costs.
