Other Food Sources
• Project FRESH - Farm Market Produce Project FRESH, or the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP), is associated with the WIC program. Project FRESH is an initiative to provide fresh, nutritious, unprepared foods (such as fruits and vegetables) from farmers’ markets to women, infants and children who are nutritionally at risk.
| • Commodities for Schools and Institutions The Food Distribution Program is one of USDA's nutrition assistance programs. Schools and institutions participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP) and eligible institutions participating in the Nutrition Program for the Elderly (NPE) may receive USDA-donated commodity meats, vegetables, fruits, grains, and dairy products.
| • Food Banks The Food Bank Council of Michigan is a statewide charitable organization gathering food and funds to help stock the shelves of its member food banks.
| • Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program | • Meals On Wheels Meals on Wheels is a private, non-profit, volunteer-based service that delivers nutritious meals to homebound persons.
