    Mr. Varner was appointed by Governor Granholm to the Board on October 27, 2010, succeeding Mr. Reginald M. Turner who resigned. Mr. Varner is Chief Executive Officer of Excellent Schools Detroit.  Mr. Varner earned both a bachelor's degree in history and a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan.
