The Michigan Department of Education received the Safe & Supportive Schools (S3) grant. The S3 grant was funded through the U. S. Department of Education and was purposed to improve academic achievement by addressing the conditions for learning for students in Michigan's lowest-achieving schools. Schools used student, parent, and staff survey results along with student incident data to assist them in the selection of interventions to improve conditions for learning (school climate). In addition the grant fostered relationships with adults in the school setting, as well as engaged parents and community members.
