Community Service Troopers
Michigan State Police (MSP) Community Service Troopers (CSTs) are assigned to regions across the state, focusing on community outreach and interaction to help strengthen communities.
They serve residents in a range of ways, including mentoring youth, working with seniors, and educating residents on emerging crime trends.
CSTs also work with other law enforcement agencies to help strengthen policing.

Train Like a Trooper
The Teenage Defensive Driving Program was developed through a project funded by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning and the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Teenage Defensive Driving is four-hour hands-on program. The curriculum includes:
- Defensive Driving
- Serpentine Exercise
- Controlled Braking
- Evasive Maneuvering
- Skid Control (MSP Drive Track ONLY)
Class size is limited to 21 students. Michigan State Police patrol vehicles will be provided for all driving exercises.
Participants must:
- Have completed segment 1 of Driver's Training
- Be between the ages of 14 and 19
