Wednesday, December 30, 2015
LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Thomas McMillin, of Rochester Hills, to the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission.
The commission was created by PA 93 of 2013 to improve legal representation for low-income criminal defendants.
“A key principle of the judicial system is that every citizen has a right to competent legal counsel,” Snyder said. “I am confident Thomas will serve our state well on this commission.”
McMillin is the owner of Michigan Community Auditors PLLC., and recently served as a Michigan State Representative. He serves as treasurer and board member of Crossroads Pregnancy Center in Auburn Hills, and is a certified public accountant. McMillin earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He will represent members submitted by the Speaker of the House and fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Cletus Smith.
McMillin will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring April 1, 2016. His appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
