Lime Island State Recreation Area
Lime Island State Park – encompassing a 932-acre island and 6.5 acres in the community of Raber on the mainland – is located in the eastern tip of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The island is home to a boat dock, cabins and tent camping on wooden platforms. Visitors enjoy hiking, fishing, wildlife watching, hunting, watching freighters and more. Cottages and campsites are available Memorial Day weekend through mid-September.
Visitors must charter or navigate a boat more than 2 miles across the St. Marys River. It's not recommended to use a nonmotorized boat to reach the island. Vehicle parking is available on the mainland in Raber.
Things to keep in mind:
- If bad weather extends your stay, you'll be accommodated on the island.
- Lime Island is populated with black bear, so take extra precaution by securing food.
- Pets must be on a six-foot leash and under owner's control at all times. It's the owner's responsibility to clean up after their pets.
- No motorized vehicles allowed.

The waters near Lime Island are particularly good for catching walleye, Northern pike and herring.

Lime Island Rustic Tent Camping
Six tent-only campsite platforms are located 400 feet from the docks. In addition, four tent-only campsite platforms are located on the southeast side of the island and are accessible by boat or a 2.25-mile hike from the harbor.
Campsites are available June 15 through Labor Day.

Lime Island Cabins
Six rustic cabins can accommodate up to eight individuals. These two- and three-bedroom cabins are outfitted with beds, table/chairs, a kitchen counter and more. They all have rooftop solar panels that produce limited lighting. A potable water source and portable restrooms are located nearby. Guests should provide all basic necessities, including a light source, cooking equipment, warm clothing and sleeping bags/linens.
Cabin #4 is pet friendly. There is an additional fee of $10 per night/pet/cabin. Up to two pets (cats and dogs only) are allowed.
