The Healthcare sector was closely aligned with the state in employment by age group. The most notable difference being the share of those under age 25 in the field. Just 10 percent of Healthcare employees were between the ages of 16 and 24 compared to more than 14 percent statewide. Many careers in Healthcare require some postsecondary education or training, which likely contributes to the lower share of young workers. However, Michigan’s population is older than other states. With an advanced median age, the state and Healthcare sector will continue to be more reliant on an aging workforce.
