Mead Creek State Forest Campground
Nestled on the Manistique River, this rustic campground offers exceptional paddling and fishing adventures. Nine sites accommodate tents and small trailers, offering a range of experiences. Riverfront sites (1-4) provide immediate access to the water and picturesque views, while the remaining sites are perched on a bluff. The operation of an ORV and snowmobile between the campground and nearby trails is allowed.
The campground is located six miles southwest of Germfask via M-77 and County Road 436.

Boat launch
A boat launch is located on the Manistique River within the campground. Please note that the water can fluctuate quite a bit. Drivers must use a narrow wooden bridge to access the boat launch.
Fishing
Walleye, bass and pike can be caught in the Manistique River.
Hunting
This campground provides access to state land open to hunting. Firearm hunting is not allowed within 450 feet of an occupied dwelling.
ORV trails or routes
The operation of an ORV between the campground and nearby trails is allowed. Trail 8 is adjacent to the campground.
Paddling
Paddle one of the Michigan’s longest, undeveloped rivers. Suitable for paddlers of all skill levels, this twisty, sandy bottom natural river has depths ranging between two to 10 feet. This river starts at Manistique Lake and flows southwesterly more than 70 miles, emptying into Lake Michigan in Manistique.

This rustic campground is open all year; however, the campground and seasonal roads are not plowed.
What to expect, finding a site
These rustic campgrounds offer stunning river and lakefront settings, perfect for fishing, boating, and paddling. Here's what you can expect:
- No reservations. Sites available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- There are vault toilets.
- Potable (drinking) water is available from a hand-pump well.
- No electrical available.
- Overnight fees ($20 for most sites) and registration procedures are posted at the information kiosk at each campground.
- Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay.
- One camping unit and six people are allowed per site.
