DTE Energy Foundation Trail
DTE Energy Foundation Trail
Mountain bikers, get ready for a thrill ride! The DTE Energy Foundation Trail, a 22-mile, single-track gem in Waterloo Recreation Area, is affectionately known as "Michigan's dirt rollercoaster." This isn't your average trail—it's a "flow trail" with a mechanically-cut surface designed to deliver an exhilarating, smooth ride. And while it's a biker's paradise, it welcomes runners, hikers, and cross-country skiers, too.
The trail is a collection of four interconnected loops, each offering a unique challenge. New riders can start on the gentle 5.2-mile Green Lake Loop, while those looking for more of a workout can tackle the 4.8-mile Big Kame Loop. Experienced bikers can push their limits on the longer, technical 8-mile Winn Loop or take on the most challenging section of all, the 4-mile Sugar Loop.
Waterloo Recreation Area is conveniently located seven miles north of Chelsea on M-52, a short 30-minute drive from both Ann Arbor and Jackson, in southeast Michigan.
