Independent Living programs are a child placing agency licensing component. These programs must comply with Licensing Rules for Child Placing Agencies. The program is for children who are at least 16 or 17 years of age.
Children in independent living must demonstrate they are mature and able to live on their own without supervision.
Supervision is provided for children who need assistance with the skills to be independent. These programs are intended to be transitions into independent adulthood. Children work, go to school and they are expected to follow mutually agreed upon rules of the program.
The licensing rules require the agency to document the basis for placement into independent living and the rules require that there be a mutually agreed upon contract for children placed in independent living.
