To request a Resident Producer license in Michigan, follow these steps:

  • Surrender the license held in your previous home state.
  • Submit an Electronic Resident Licensing (ERL) applicationvia the NIPR website.
  • If required, successfully complete the Michigan licensing examination:
    • If the license held in your previous home state was surrendered within the past 90 days, you are not required to pass the Michigan licensing examination.
    • If the license held in your previous home state was surrendered more than 90 days but less than 12 months ago, you are required to successfully pass the Michigan licensing examination.
    • If the license you held in your previous home state was surrendered more than 12 months ago, you are required to successfully complete Pre-licensing Education coursework and pass the Michigan licensing examination.
