LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointments of Matthew J. Wesaw and Kelvin W. Scott to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission.

Wesaw, of Lansing, is director of government relations for the Michigan State Police Troopers Association and former chair and current tribal council member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian Nation.  In 2001, he retired from the Michigan State Police after 25 years of service, and is a former member of the Michigan Community Service Commission.
 
Wesaw is appointed to represent independents for a term commencing September 17, 2004 and expiring December 31, 2004.  He is also being reappointed to serve a second term expiring December 31, 2008.  He succeeds Gary Torgow who has resigned.
 
Kelvin W.  Scott, of Grosse Pointe Park, is vice president and general counsel with Plastech Engineered Products of Dearborn.  He is a former assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District Criminal Division.  Scott is former president and current member of the Wolverine Bar Association, and serves on the Michigan Supreme Court Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions

Scott is appointed to represent Democrats for a term commencing September 17, 2004 and expiring December 31, 2007.  He succeeds Melvin “Butch” Hollowell who has resigned.

This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
