Governor Granholm's Statement on Comerica's Announcement

Contact:  Liz Boyd 517-335-6397

March 6, 2007

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement regarding Comerica's announcement

"Comerica's announcement is tough to hear, particularly given the tough times Michigan is experiencing.  But these are also times for us to make tough decisions.  We're not going to fold up Michigan's tent - we're going to keep working our economic plan and come out stronger and more competitive.

"I believe in Michigan, and I believe our people do, too.  It's more important than ever to keep our state's economic plan on track.  We may have setbacks, but we have to keep moving forward.  It's more important than ever to invest in our people and give our kids a great education.  It's more important than ever to diversify our economy and to provide affordable healthcare.

"I'm going to keep working that plan.  I'm going to keep going anywhere, doing anything, every day to bring jobs to Michigan.  In fact, on Saturday, I will leave for Germany to meet with companies that are choosing Michigan to grow their business.  Across the state, entrepreneurs are opening shop here - just today, another 300 jobs in Southeast Michigan were announced by Critical Signal Technologies.  While it's easy to overlook the good news, it is happening, and our plan will help foster that growth."
