Governor Appoints Farr as State Fire Marshal

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Ronald R. Farr as state fire marshal.  Farr, of Otsego, most recently served as fire chief of the Charter Township of Kalamazoo Fire Department and as member and chairperson of the State Fire Safety Board.  He is appointed to serve as state fire marshal for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor. 

The state fire marshal is charged with overseeing and directing fire service programs in this state; serving as policy advisor to the governor on the development and administration of fire service policies, programs, and procedures; participating in the development, review, and implementation of the Michigan hazard mitigation plan; and providing information for the development and regular updating of the Michigan hazard analysis, including the structural fires element, and the Michigan emergency management plan.

This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
