LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

State Board of Accountancy

Carla E. Sledge of Franklin, chief financial officer for the Wayne County Charter, is appointed to represent certified public accountants for a term expiring June 30, 2012.  She succeeds Alan C. Young whose term has expired.

Mary L. Miller of Franklin, retired vice president of Airline Tariff Publishing Company, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2012.

The State Board of Accountancy is responsible for the certification, registration, and licensing of certified public accountants and the regulation of the practice of public accounting by individuals, firms, and corporations.

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days. 

Michigan Board of Auctioneers
 
William L. Sheridan of Mason, president and C.E.O. of Sheridan Realty and Auction Co., is appointed to represent registered auctioneers for a term expiring October 1, 2012.

The Michigan Board of Auctioneers was created by Act 489 of 2006.  The duties of this board include overseeing ethical practices as they relate to the business of conducting auctions. This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Commission for the Blind
 
Velma P. Allen of Flint, president of Leland Productions and president emeritus of Mott Children's Health Center, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 30, 2011. 

Geraldine G. Taeckens of Sault Ste Marie, school social worker with the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District, is reappointed to represent blind persons for a term expiring September 30, 2011.
                                                                                          
The Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) serves blind persons each year through its programs including: Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Independent Living Services, DeafBlind Services, Youth Services, the Business Enterprise program, and the MCB Training Center.  MCB is a statewide program with a staff of nearly 100 available to serve the state's estimated 50,000 persons who are blind.

These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Carnival-Amusement Safety Board

Jeffrey D. Ledy of Laingsburg, president of Ledy Design Group, is appointed to represent professional engineers for a term expiring July 10, 2012.  He succeeds David W. O'Neill whose term has expired.

Carrie E. Jones of East Lansing, finance director for the Granholm Leadership Fund, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring July 10, 2012. 

Kurt G. Kipling of Ishpeming, truck driver for Tom Joy Trucking, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring July 10, 2010.

Douglas S. Schmidt of Sterling, owner of Schmidt Amusements, is reappointed to represent amusement park operators for a term expiring July 10, 2012.   

Nicholas J. Infante of East Lansing, senior manager of public affairs and government relations for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is appointed to represent the retail merchants association for a term expiring July 10, 2010.  He succeeds the late Douglas P. Clark.

The Carnival-Amusement Safety Board promulgates and formulates definitions, codes, rules, and regulations for the safe installation, repair, maintenance, use, operation, and inspection of all carnival/amusement rides for the protection of the general public.

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board
 
James K. Dellies of Gwinn, congressional aide for U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak, is reappointed to represent general citizenry of this state for a term expiring October 4, 2012. 

Peter M. Kotila of Negaunee, retired middle school teacher for Marquette Public Schools, is reappointed to represent the township of Negaunee for a term expiring October 4, 2012.

Don L. Mourand of Negaunee, owner & president of Data Driven Decisions, Inc., is reappointed to represent the city of Negaunee for a term expiring October 4, 2012.

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board advises the Department of History, Arts and Libraries on policies, plan and programs concerning the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Marquette and also supports education programs and use of the facility. 

These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
