Governor Granholm Applauds Senate Approval of Bills Banning Sale of Violent and Sexually Explicit Video Games to Minors

Contact:  Heidi Hansen 517-335-6397

May 12, 2005

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm issued the following statement on the Senate’s passage of legislation to ban the sale of adult-rated video games to minors:

“I am heartened by today’s Senate’s action.  Violent and sexually-explicit video games are a danger to our children, and as the mother of three and the governor of three million, I believe strongly that we must take action.  Though today’s vote is just the first step in a long process, I believe it is critical that we put partisanship aside and take common-sense steps to protect Michigan’s children.  Once again, I commend Senator Hansen Clarke for his outstanding leadership on this issue and express my sincere hope that the House will move on this common-sense legislation with all deliberate speed.”
