Project Blue Star
May 15, 2005

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the launch of a new Website created to assist families of Michigan soldiers serving overseas.  Project Blue Star is a program designed to identify and catalogue community-based services available to military families in one convenient, online location.

“Every day, many brave service men and women put their lives on the line for us as they serve in posts around the globe to protect the freedoms that we hold so dear,” said Granholm. “While we can never repay them fully for all they do for us, this Website is a way for us to reach out to their families during their time of need.  It is a one-stop shop for finding the support needed to keep families’ lives at home running smoothly while their loved ones keep our country safe.”

When a service member is called to active duty, families are often left with concerns about completing a variety of day-to-day household tasks.  Project Blue Star easily connects organizations providing services with the families who need them.

The Website lists organizations offering services from mortgage assistance to mowing lawns.  Military families can visit the site, search for organizations offering services they are looking for near their home, and make contact directly.

Organizations already registered on Project Blue Star’s Website include the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way, and Volunteer Centers of Michigan.

Organizations wishing to post their services, and families looking for assistance, can visit the Website at
