Governor Granholm Makes Appointments

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Workers’ Compensation Appellate Commission and the State Board of Accountancy:

Workers’ Compensation Appellate Commission

Martha M. Glaser of Farmington Hills.  Ms. Glaser is designated to serve as chairperson of the Workers’ Compensation Appellate Commission for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.  She was appointed to the commission in January, 2004.  Ms. Glaser succeeds William G. Reamon, Jr. who resigned.  The designation of chairperson is not subject to disapproval.

Gregory A. Przybylo of Okemos.  Mr. Przybylo is reappointed for a term expiring September 20, 2009.

Granner S. Ries of Clinton Township.  Mr. Ries is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2009.

The Workers’ Compensation Appellate Commission has statutory authority to review opinions and orders of the Workers’ Compensation Board of Magistrates and to promulgate rules to amend its administrative appellate procedures.  It also has the authority it review orders of the director of the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Agency.
 
State Board of Accountancy

Richard G. David, CPA of Bloomfield Hills, partner with KPMG, LLC accounting firm.  Mr. David is appointed to represent certified public accountants for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  He succeeds Richard M. Gabrys whose term has expired.

Thomas R. Weirich, Ph.D., CPA of Mount Pleasant, professor of accounting for Central Michigan University.  Dr. Weirich is appointed to represent certified public accountants for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  He succeeds Edward Kisscorni whose term has expired.

The State Board of Accountancy is responsible for the certification, registration and licensing of certified public accountants and the regulation of the practice of public accounting by individuals, firms and corporations.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  These appointments stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
