Granholm Appoints Judges to Michigan Court of Appeals

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointments of Elizabeth L. Gleicher and Jane M. Beckering to the Michigan Court of Appeals.
 
Elizabeth L. Gleicher, of Pleasant Ridge, has been appointed judge of the 2nd District of the Court of Appeals, which includes Genesee, Macomb, Oakland and Shiawassee counties. 
 
Gleicher most recently served as an attorney in private practice following four years as owner and partner of Gleicher & Patek, P.C. law firm in Royal Oak.  She is a current member of the Board of Visitors for Wayne State University Law School, where she also previously served as an adjunct faculty member.  Gleicher is the 2001 recipient of the State Bar of Michigan's "Champions of Justice" Award and was a 2004 Elected Fellow of the International Society of Barristers. 
 
Ms. Gleicher earned her law degree from Wayne State University and received her bachelor's degree from Carleton College in Minnesota.  She replaces the Honorable Jessica Cooper who has resigned.  Her term expires January 1, 2009.  

Jane M. Beckering, of Grand Rapids, has been appointed judge of the 3rd District of the Court of Appeals, which includes a 16-county area stretching from central to southwest Michigan.  Counties include Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Cass, Eaton, Ionia, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Muskegon, Newaygo, Ottawa, St. Joseph, VanBuren, and Washtenaw.
 
Beckering most recently served as an attorney with Buchanan & Beckering, PLLC law firm and as Kent County Circuit Court mediator.  She is currently vice chair of the Hillman Trial Advocacy Program, a member of the Women's Progressive Alliance, serves on the executive board of the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association, is a trustee of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, and is a previous board member of the Michigan Migrant Legal Assistant Program.
 
Ms. Beckering earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.  She replaces the Honorable Janet Neff who was recently appointed to the federal bench.  Her term expires January 1, 2009.
 
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
