LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Board of Ethics

H. Lynn Jondahl of Okemos, executive director of the Michigan Prospect for Renewed Citizenship, is reappointed for a term expiring February 7, 2011.  Jondahl serves as chair of the board.
 
The Board of Ethics is authorized to receive citizens' complaints concerning alleged unethical conduct by public officers or employees and to inquire into the circumstances surrounding those allegations.

This reappointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Humanities Council Board of Directors

Eva L. Evans, Ph.D. of Lansing, retired interim superintendent for human resources and deputy superintendent for instruction of the Lansing School District, is appointed to represent the governor for a term expiring December 31, 2009.  She succeeds Judy Palnau who has resigned.

Marcia A. Warner of Grand Rapids, director of the Grand Rapids Public Library, is appointed to represent the governor for a term expiring December 31, 2009.  She succeeds Sarah G. Deson-Fried who has resigned.

The Michigan Humanities Council, founded in 1974 as the state's affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, is a private, nonprofit corporation that connects people and communities by fostering and creating quality cultural programs.  The council encourages and supports - through advocacy, fundraising and community engagement - a variety of activities which bring humanities scholars and the public together to examine culture.  Their main responsibilities include awarding grants for public humanities and cultural programs, conducting public humanities and cultural projects of statewide importance, initiating collaborations and partnerships to broaden and strengthen the organizational and institutional base for the humanities in Michigan, and providing the humanities with leadership and a public voice in Michigan. 

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board

Rachel L. Crary of Marquette, editor of Harlow's Wooden Man quarterly journal, is appointed to represent the Historical Society of Marquette for a term expiring October 4, 2011.  She succeeds the late James J. Scullion.

Allan E. Koski of Negaunee, senior engineer for Cleveland-Cliffs Michigan Operations, is reappointed to represent the mineral industry for a term expiring October 4, 2011.

The board advises the Department of History, Arts and Libraries on policies, plans, and programs concerning the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Marquette and also supports education programs and use of the facility.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board

John M. Dunn, Ed.D. of Kalamazoo, president of Western Michigan University, is appointed to represent Western Michigan University for a term expiring December 31, 2010.  He succeeds Diether Haenicke whose term has expired.

George F. Vande Woude, Ph.D. of Ada, research director of Van Andel Institute, is appointed to represent the Van Andel Institute for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Mary Sue Coleman, Ph.D. of Ann Arbor, president of the University of Michigan, is reappointed to represent the University of Michigan for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

Michael J. Jandernoa of West Olive, principal of Bridge Street Capital Fund, is reappointed to represent qualified businesses or persons with business, technology, or financial experience related to competitive-edge technology for a term expiring December 31, 2010. 

Glenn D. Mroz, Ph.D. of Houghton, president of Michigan Technological University, is reappointed to represent Michigan Technological University for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Michael Rao, Ph.D. of Mt Pleasant, president of Central Michigan University, is reappointed to represent public universities in Michigan other than Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Western Michigan University, or Michigan Technological University, for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

Irvin D. Reid, Ph.D. of Detroit, president of Wayne State University, is reappointed to represent Wayne State University for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

Kenneth Rogers of Clarkston, executive director of Automation Alley, is reappointed to represent Automation Alley for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

Lou Anna Simon, Ph.D. of East Lansing, president of Michigan State University, is reappointed to represent Michigan State University for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

Created as an independent entity within the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board oversees the competitive grants and loans to Michigan institutions of higher education, Michigan research institutions, and Michigan nonprofit corporations for competitive-edge technology projects. 

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
