Governor Granholm Makes Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following reappointments:

Commission of Agriculture

Ann M. Jousma-Miller of Gladstone, director of the Delta County Economic Development Alliance, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2011. 

The commission provides oversight and executive direction for the programs administered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and is responsible for approving all rules and regulations promulgated by the department.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Governing Board

Dale P. Vettel of Homer, director of tax and economic policy for the Michigan Department of Treasury, is reappointed to represent the governor for a term expiring December 31, 2009.

The Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Governing Board was created by MCL Act 174 of 2004 to allow Michigan to participate with the multi-state body.  Responsibilities of this board include the certification of certified service providers and certified automation systems, establishing tax performance standards for multi-state sellers meeting criteria set by the board, issue resolution and quarterly report to participating legislative bodies.

This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Tobacco Settlement Finance Authority Board of Directors

John G. Russell of East Lansing, president and chief operating officer of Consumers Energy, is reappointed to represent individuals with knowledge, skill, or experience in the business of financial fields for a term expiring December 15, 2011. 

The Michigan Tobacco Settlement Finance Authority was created by Act 226 of 2005 and amended by Act 18 of 2007 to issue bonds secured by a pledge of a percentage of tobacco settlement proceeds which will be used to finance projects under the 21st Century Jobs Fund and make deposits to the state school aid fund and the general fund.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
