LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Scott Bowen as Judge of the 62-A District Court in Wyoming.
 
“Scott is passionate about justice and the law, two qualities that are essential for anyone who serves on the bench,” Granholm said.  “He is enthusiastic and fair, and I am pleased to appoint him to serve the people of Wyoming.”
 
A resident of Wyoming, Bowen founded Bowen, Distel & Haynes, P.L.C. in 1994 and is currently a partner at McInerney & Bowen of Grand Rapids.  Bowen’s other experience includes working as an assistant city attorney for the City of Kentwood, the City of Lowell, and the City of Rockford.  Bowen also acted as a special assistant attorney general for the Michigan Department of Transportation where he specialized in condemnation work.  
 
In 1997, Bowen was elected to the Grand Rapids City Commission and was re-elected in 2001.
 
Bowen earned his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law and graduated from Michigan State University.
        
Bowen replaces Judge Jack Jelsema who resigned, creating a vacancy in the 62-A District Court.
