ALERT!: A Library of Michigan library card DOES NOT provide access to Hoopla or the Libby eBook platform. The card only provides access to the resources listed below.
All Michigan residents are eligible for Library of Michigan (LM) library cards. Out-of-state students enrolled in a Michigan college or university are also eligible. State of Michigan employees should use the Application for State Employees.
- LM library cards and online resource credentials may not be used or shared with non-Michigan residents.
Physical LM library card provides access to:
- LM collections for borrowing materials onsite at our facility in Lansing - AnswerCat.org
- MeLCat materials from other Michigan libraries, delivered to the Library of Michigan - MeL.org
- LM subscription databases, accessible from home or at the library - Michigan.gov/LMdatabases
LM eCard provides access to:
- LM subscription databases that are remotely accessible from home.
Michigan residents can apply in two ways:
1. In person: Visit the Library’s 2nd floor Reference Desk during open hours to receive a physical card. Bring a valid Michigan driver’s license or state ID with your current address. Out-of-state students must show a valid driver’s license from their home state plus a current student ID from a Michigan college or university.
2. Online: Apply for an eCard using the form below. We will email your card details and password instructions. To upgrade to a full-service physical card and check out items onsite, present your Michigan driver’s license or state ID to staff at the Library in Lansing.
Notes:
- Library of Michigan (LM) cards do not replace cards from your local public library or other libraries in Michigan. Use the Michigan Library Directory to find your local library and its services.
- LM cards provide access only to LM services:
- Many additional eResources are available without a library card through the Michigan eLibrary at MeL.org.
