Obtaining a Library Card: michigan.gov/librarycard
Residents of Michigan and students at Michigan colleges and universities are eligible for Library of Michigan library cards. This card allows the holder to check out materials from the Library of Michigan’s circulating collections as well as borrow materials through MeLCat, Michigan’s statewide library catalog and borrowing service.
Library cards can be obtained in the manners described below.
State Government Employees
State of Michigan government employees may apply for library cards online (see form below) or in person at the Library’s 2nd floor Reference Desk. The Library building is open Monday – Friday, 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm.
Michigan residents and non-resident college students may apply for a library card in person at the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor of the Library. Applicants are required to show a valid Michigan Driver's license or state ID card. Out-of-state students may use their valid driver's license from their home states in combination with their current student ID card.
