  • New Online Course Available from Pain & Policies Studies Group - The University of Wisconsin Pain & Policy Studies Group (PPSG) recently launched a new on-line course, Increasing Patient Access to Pain Medicines around the World - Improving National Policies that Govern Drug Distribution. The self-paced course, available at no charge, addresses the relationship between government policies that affect the medical availability of opioid analgesics and patients who experience moderate to severe pain.   • Manipulative Medicine - Academy of Osteopathy - This site can assist you in finding an osteopathic physician who practices manipulative medicine.
  • Medical Acupuncturists - Use this site to search for a physician specializing in acupuncture. For Michigan licensees, please be sure to verify their license at Verify a License. For licensees in states other than Michigan, you should contact the licensing authority in that particular state.

  • Wayne State University, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences- WSU's research group studying the associations between marital functioning, physical health, and mental health. Their work cuts across various disciplines including clinical psychology, behavioral medicine, and close relationships research. They are particularly interested in how couples communicate about and manage chronic pain problems like osteoarthritis and back pain.

  • National Institutes of Health - The NIH Pain Consortium was established to enhance pain research and promote collaboration among researchers across the many NIH Institutes and Centers that have programs and activities addressing pain.

    Current Developments

  • The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine - (NCCAM) is the Federal Government's lead agency for scientific research on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
  • Emerging Solutions in Pain - ESP is a nonbranded, educational initiative dedicated to developing tools, information and resources that support improved therapeutic outcomes for chronic pain patients by minimizing the risk of opioid misuse, abuse and addiction.
