The mission of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Epidemiology Section is to provide statewide epidemiological leadership and expertise for the maternal and child health programs that support women and children in Michigan.

We are always working towards evidence-based prevention strategies translated into public health policy and practice by conducting needs assessment, program design, implementation, and evaluation support.

At the Michigan Department of Community Health, the members of the MCH Epidemiology Section uses information collected by a variety of state programs to monitor diseases and other adverse health conditions among Michigan's women, infants, and children (for example, infant deaths, birth defects, and malnutrition in children). We report those findings to health professionals and policy makers who then use this information to develop guidelines and/or programs to address problems and protect the health of all Michiganders.
