Reports on live births and fetal deaths are the source of considerable information on births occurring to women in Michigan and on the prevalence of factors that relate to the health and well-being of the mother and the infant. Reports of pregnancy terminations are also received by the Michigan Department of Community Health and are used to develop statistics on abortions and abortion rates in Michigan. Data on live births, abortions and pregnancies are available from by selecting Natality and Pregnancy. Statistical tables for the state with national comparisons and for most Michigan communities are provided. Numbers and rates, including fertility rates and pregnancy statistics are available, including historical data on a range of demographic and health related characteristics. Data are included for years from 1900 through 2007 for live births and for 1980 through 2007 for abortions.
