Mortality

Death certificates provide considerable information on death to Michigan residents. Selecting Mortality will link to detailed statistical tables on deaths to Michigan residents that are developed from these legal documents. Numbers and rates of death overall and by cause of death are provided. Deaths and rates by race and by sex are available. Both crude death rates and age-adjusted rates are presented. Historical death information is provided for deaths since 1900 for deaths overall and since 1980 for the leading causes of death. Specialized statistics such as life expectancy and years of potential life lost are included on this page. Community level mortality data are available, along with comparative national statistics. This page currently has information through deaths that occurred in 2007.
