What is the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS)?
The MDSS is a Web based communicable disease
reporting system developed for the state of Michigan.
It has been developed to national data
standards (Logical Data Model, Public Health Information Network, National
Electronic Disease Surveillance System)
Why has the MDSS been developed?
To facilitate coordination among local,
State and Federal Public Health Agencies
To provide for the secure transfer,
maintenance and analysis of communicable disease surveillance information
To promote participation from a variety
of stakeholders including public health, health care providers and medical
laboratories
To address
needs in many areas of traditional disease surveillance, emergent infectious
diseases and biological terrorism
