Sterling Heights Pharmacist Has License Summarily Suspended

Contact:  James McCurtis, Jr. (517) 241-2112
Agency: Community Health

April 7, 2008

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the pharmacist license of Sureshkumar Dakshinamoorthy, R.Ph. The MDCH Bureau of Health Professions orders a summary suspension when it believes that the public's health, safety, and welfare warrant emergency action.

On June 12, 2007, Dakshinamoorthy, 39, allegedly sat for and passed the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX). Based on the examination results, Dakshinamoorthy was granted a license to practice as a pharmacist by DCH. On March 14, 2008, DCH was notified by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy that Dakshinamoorthy's NAPLEX results were invalidated. The examination invalidation was based on an investigation which revealed that Dakshinamoorthy did not, in fact, sit for the June 12, 2007, NAPLEX; rather he had someone else take the examination on his behalf.

On March 20, 2008, MDCH issued an order immediately suspending Dakshinamoorthy's license. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Dakshinamoorthy's pharmacist license.
