Contact:  James McCurtis (517) 241-2112
Agency: Community Health

February 17, 2009

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) recently awarded 51 free clinics across the state with grants totaling $250,000. The grants were awarded to Michigan clinics that provide free health care services to Michigan's uninsured population. Each clinic received $4,902.

"In a time when Michigan's citizens are faced with difficult economic choices, free clinics across the state are making health care services available to those most in need," said MDCH Director Janet Olszewski. "We are pleased to be able to support the work these free clinics do in caring for Michigan's uninsured."

MDCH has awarded grants to free clinic organizations for each of the last four years. For a complete list of the grant recipients, please visit the following link at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdch/Fiscal_Year_2009_Funded_Free_Clinic_Organizations_267418_7.pdf.
