CDC Confirms First Michigan Case of Influenza A (H1N1)

LANSING - The State of Michigan today announced the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed Michigan's first case of Influenza A (H1N1) virus (previously referred to as swine flu) in Livingston County. Earlier today the CDC reported two confirmed cases of the virus in Michigan however, they actually confirmed two specimens from the same individual. At this time, Michigan has only one confirmed case of Influenza A (H1N1).

Yesterday, the state announced a probable case involving a 34-year-old female resident of Ottawa County, who is recovering at home after being released from a Kent County hospital last Friday.

In total, Michigan has one confirmed case and one probable case of Influenza A (H1N1) virus. The state laboratory results for the probable case have been sent to the CDC to determine if it is positive.

All updates to provide Michigan residents with accurate and timely information on the human outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1), as well as updates on the state's actions to protect residents, are available at www.michigan.gov/swineflu.
