Michigan Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium difficile Infection Prevention Initiative

 Recent News and Updates

Jan 4th 2012 - We are in the process of recruiting acute care and skilled nursing facilities to participate in the MRSA/CDI prevention collaborative.  A packet of information is being mailed to all facilities in the state.  We ask you please complete and mail back or fax these assessment documents to apply or decline participation in the collaborative by February 1st 2012.  The partipation materials can be found below. 

Jan 27th 2012 - We are beginning to receive completed application materials from skilled nursing and acute care facilities from across the state.  The collaborative group will be selecting facilities to participate in the MRSA/CDI Prevention Initiaiteve at theirnext meeting.

February 14th 2012 - The MRSA/CDI collaborative group choose 12 acute care and 13 skilled nursing facilities for enrollment in to the MRSA/CDI Prevention Initiattive out of nearly 100 facilities that sent in applications.  Thank you to all of those who took the time to complete the paperwork and send in the assessment tools!  All facilities who sent in applications will be receiving an e-mail/letter informing them if they were selected for participation or not.

April 24th 2012 - The MRSA/CDI Initiaitve Kick-off Conference was attended by over 100 individuals from acute care and long term care facilities from all Eight Michigan Public Health Preparedness Regions.  Thank you all very much for attending.  We hope that you found the presentations interesting and informative.  Please checkback to see the final program evaluations.  Also, please see the powerpoint presentations given at the conference below.

April 26th 2012 - MDCH will be hosting a conference call with participating skilled nursing facilities to go over the data collection process and answer any questions or concerns facilities may have.

Schedule of Events, Trainings, and Deadlines

Application Deadline - Completed application materials (listed below) must be received by the the Michigan Department of Community Health by Febrauary 3rd to be considered for recruitment into the initiative.  Please contact Gail Denkins if there are questions or concerns about the deadline.

Results of MRSA, CDI, and Long-term Care Needs Assessment Surveys - The MDCH SHARP Unit intends on releasing a report summarizing the results of the MRSA, CDI, and Needs Assessment survey responses submitted to us by facilities during the MRSA/CDI Initiaitive application process.  When we have completed the analysis we will distribute the results to those facilities who completed the surveys and also post the results to this website.

MRSA/CDI Prevention Initiative Kickoff Conference (by invitation only)- Facilities recruited to participate in the initiative are invited to attend the April 20th Kickoff Conference which will be held from 8:30-4:30 at the Lansing Community College West Campus in Lansing.  Click here for the conference agenda.

Upcoming Regional Site Visits - Gail and Prashanti are planning on visiting each Public Health Preparedness Region in the upcoming months to assess how the regional partners are progressing and to help facilitate discussion and communication between and within facilities.  Stay tuned for dates, times, and location of these meetings!

On September 28, 2011 a collaborative meeting of individuals representing MDCH, Michigan Society of Infection Prevention and Control, Michigan Hospital Association Keystone Center for Patient Safety and Quality, Michigan's Quality Improvement Organization (MPRO), Long Term Care, and Michigan Association of Local Public Health devloped a prevention collaborative to integrate evidence based best practices to reduce and eliminate the occurrence of MRSA and CDI among Michigan citizens.
