Doula Care Is for Everyone Find Yours at Michigan.gov back-slash Doula

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Doula Initiative

Michigan Medicaid coverage of doula services is published in the bulletin Medicaid Coverage of Doulas (MMP 22-47) and the Medicaid Provider Manual. In October 2024, MMP 24-40 increased the number of visits and reimbursement rates for doula services.

The MDHHS Doula Initiative supports a broader statewide goal of reducing infant and maternal mortality by:

  • Expanding the doula network and promoting access to doula care.
  • Providing technical assistance and support for Medicaid doula providers, partners and families.
  • Facilitating the Michigan Doula Advisory Council to inform the advancement of doula services.
  • Managing the MDHHS Doula Registry, a platform for families to find doula care in their area.

The Michigan Doula Advisory Council

The Michigan Doula Advisory Council works to inform the advancement of doula services in Michigan as a result of the Medicaid doula reimbursement policy. The Michigan Doula Advisory Council includes representation from doulas across the state of Michigan. The Council membership represents, to the extent possible, the various communities and settings in which doula services are provided.

Please contact the MDHHS Doula Initiative with questions, concerns, inquiries or to request a grievance form at MDHHS-MIDoula@michigan.gov.
