Uniform Traffic Code Update
Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships, and Villages
The revised Uniform Traffic Code (UTC) became effective on October 30, 2002, and can now be adopted as local ordinance. Municipalities adopting previous versions of the UTC should adopt both the Michigan Vehicle Code and current Uniform Traffic Code by reference, in addition to rescinding their ordinance adopting the previous version of the UTC. Municipalities that frequently enforce snowmobile law are encouraged to adopt Part 821 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, MCL 324.82101 to 324.82610.
For assistance in adopting the Uniform Traffic Code, the Michigan Vehicle Code and related statutes by reference, please contact the appropriate agency as follows:
Michigan Municipal League
Michigan Townships Association
A conversion chart has been prepared to assist agencies in converting from the previous version of the UTC to the current version.
