Governor makes appointments to boards of Professional Surveyors and Professional Engineers

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced appointments to the State Board of Professional Surveyors and the State Board of Professional Engineers.

Created in 1980, the groups regulate the practices of professional surveyors and engineers.  

 

"These boards play a vital role in the safety and advancement of Michigan," said Snyder. "I am confident these experienced individuals will bring new ideas and a commitment to excellence to the boards."

Appointments include:

Michael Drewyor, of Houghton, will serve on both boards. He is a professor in the School of Technology, Construction Management and Survey Engineering at Michigan Technological University. Previously, Drewyor worked for engineering and surveying firms in the Upper Peninsula. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from Michigan Technological University. On the Board of Professional Engineers, Drewyor will fill the position for a professional surveyor who also serves on the Board of Professional Surveyors, replacing Karol Grove. On the Board of Professional Surveyors, Drewyor will fill the position for a professional engineer who also serves on the Board of Professional Engineers, replacing George Karmo.

Ginger Michalski-Wallace, of Whitmore Lake, will represent professional surveyors on the Board of Professional Surveyors. She is president of Alpine Engineering Inc. and previously worked for Atwell Hicks LLC. Michalski-Wallace holds a bachelor's degree in surveying engineering from Ferris State University and a master's degree in engineering from Purdue University. She replaces Karol Grove.

Anthony Vizzini, of Mattawan, will represent professional engineers on the Board of Professional Engineers. He is dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Western Michigan University. Previously, Vizzini taught at Mississippi State University and the University of Maryland, where he founded the Composites Research Laboratory. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree and Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Vizzini replaces Charles Dulic.

Appointees to both boards will serve four-year terms that expire March 31, 2016, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
