Snyder offers statement on passing of former Lt. Gov. Connie Binsfeld

Monday, Jan. 13, 2014

LANSING, Mich. -- Gov. Rick Snyder offered the following statement on the death of former Lt. Gov. Connie Binsfeld:

"Connie Binsfeld left an indelible mark on the state she so loved. She served with modesty and integrity, always putting Michigan first. From spearheading groundbreaking public policy to setting the example for political leadership, Connie's wisdom and vision made Michigan a better state.

"She was a caring person who often became the voice of the defenseless. Her advocacy on behalf of Michigan children, women and families resulted in landmark laws, including domestic violence legislation that was among the nation's strongest. She also championed environmental protection, authoring the Sand Dunes Protection Act and introducing the 1983 Quality of Life Bonding Bill that enhanced environmental cleanup and our state park system.

"Her own service was pioneering as well. Connie earned a special place in Michigan history upon her election as lieutenant governor, having held leadership positions in both the executive and legislative branches of government.

"Connie's contributions to the welfare of our state are immeasurable. All of Michigan is grateful for her years of unselfish service. On behalf of our state, I extend my deepest sympathy to her family."
