LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed John Kelly, of Bloomfield Hills, and reappointed Gary August, of Bloomfield Hills, and Sidney Browne Jr., of Marine City, to the Residential Builders' and Maintenance and Alteration Contractors' Board.

The nine-member board licenses and regulates the construction, alteration or improvement of residential structures.

"These individuals are exemplary professionals," said Snyder. "They are ideal choices for this board and I am confident they will work to ensure Michigan homes are safe."

Previously, he worked for Hawthorne Land and Development, Mosher Dolan Cataldo and Kelly Inc. and Midwest Commercial Services. Kelly earned a bachelor's degree in construction management from Michigan State University. He will represent licensed residential builders and replaces Kevin Lewand.

Prior to joining the firm in 1996, he worked as an associate and attorney with Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn in Detroit. August holds a bachelor's degree in history from Michigan State University and a law degree from Northwestern University.

Browne is the chief building and electrical inspector for the city of Rochester, an assistant building and electrical inspector for Clay Township, an electrical inspector for the city of Auburn Hills, and an assistant building inspector for the village of New Haven. He is also a licensed residential builder and master electrician. Browne is a member of the Building Officials of Michigan and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors. He attended St. Clair Community College and Ferris State University.

Appointees will serve four-year terms that expire March 31, 2016, and are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
