    Non-Emergency Transporting Vehicle

    Required State License(s):

    Non-emergency care vehicles (such as automobiles, vans or cutaway style vehicles taking patients to doctor appointments, etc. in exchange for compensation) must obtain a business license from the Michigan Department of Transportation, Office of Passenger Transportation, but it is NOT REQUIRED if transporting EMERGENCY patients.

    If the manufacturer specifies that the vehicle will carry 15 people or less, please call (517) 241-0679 or (517) 241-0680. If the manufacturer specifies that the vehicle will carry 16 people or more, please call (517) 335-2583. OR obtain printable/fillable license application forms and other information on-line at www.michigan.gov/mdot. Under favorite links, click on “Bus and Limo Information.”

    If the vehicle is used to carry packages (other than those belonging to passengers), contact the Public Service Commission, Motor Carrier Division at (517) 241-6029.
