Continuing Education
The Library of Michigan supports staff and trustee development by offering a variety of continuing education opportunities to Michigan libraries of all types. Many offerings are also offered online and are available at no cost to attendees.
Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA)
The Library of Michigan supports statewide initiatives with federal funds received under the Museum and Library Services Act of 2010.The Institute for Museum and Library Services, an independent federal agency, provides funds to State Library Administrative Agencies to improve and support library, museum and information services. In Michigan, we use these for MeL databases, MeLCat and professional development for librarians, as well as competitive grant programs for libraries and other programs.
Library of Michigan Circulating Kits
The Library of Michigan provides programming kits to public libraries, as well as digitization kits to public and academic libraries and to cultural memory organizations for local history material. Library Science Collection
The Library Science Collection is a circulating “Librarian’s Library” of professional library science books and materials. The collection serves all librarians and library types in Michigan. Michigan Center for the Book
The Michigan Center for the Book is the Michigan affiliate of the National Center for the Book at the Library of Congress. Our mission is to promote an awareness of books, reading, literacy, authors and Michigan's rich literary heritage. The Center draws from the Library of Michigan and its affiliate institutions to encourage and produce local and statewide programs and resources that promote the culture of books.
Michigan eLibrary (MeL)
MeL, which includes MeLCat and eResources, is a statewide service administered by the Library of Michigan. A wealth of content is available from the millions of items in the MeLCat Statewide Catalog to dozens of eResources, all available at MeL.org. Additional support, such as promotional materials and training resources, are also available for library staff and educators. Connect with engagement specialists for the public library and K12 communities.
School Libraries
The Library of Michigan provides support for school libraries and school library staff through programs and resources, such as the 21st Century School Library benchmarks, MeL databases and school library staff professional development support.
Youth Library Services
The Library of Michigan actively supports public library services for children and teens through a variety of programming, training, and resources. Programming includes Ready to Read Michigan, the Summer Reading Program, NASA @ My Library, among others. Webinars, in-person workshops, programming manuals, and access to circulating kits are all included, for public library staff to better serve their local communities.
